OUTENIQUA EXPLORER
2 DAYS / 1 NIGHT
This two day / one night tour showcases the diversity of the Outeniqua mountains, by exploring the lush green south facing slopes of the Outeniqua mountains as well as the drier, more arid north facing slopes as we traverse the mountain range from George to Herold Wines, where we will overnight.
Day 1:
Distance / elevation gain: 12km – 35km** / 700m – 2500m** elevation gain
Day 2:
Distance / elevation gain: 17km – 25km** / 700m – 1100m**

DESCRIPTION
On day 1 we will make our way over the Outeniqua mountain range via the historic Cradock Pass. The pass holds historical significance as one of the oldest mountain passes in South Africa. It played a crucial role in providing a route for early travellers, ox-wagons and traders to cross the Outeniqua Mountains between George and Oudtshoorn.
Today, it is a challenging and rewarding trek that offers trail runners and hikers a mix of rugged terrain and stunning scenery.
From the top of Cradock Pass we drop down to Montagu Pass and the oasis that is, Herold Wines.
We will overnight at Herold Wines, where guests are free to relax and enjoy a wine tasting. Guests can choose to self-cater at Herold Wines or opt for a catered stay with dinner and breakfast included.
Day 2 sees us traversing back over the mountains to George where we will take on the beautiful Dizzy Heights trail all the way to Tierkop hut and down to the Nelson Mandela University where our transfer will pick us up.

At Southern Summits Trail Tours we offer race specific trail running tours and camps where we will cover the race routes of all the distances so that you arrive at that start line as best prepared as possible.
Our trail running tours are fully customisable and can either be offered as stand alone ‘run only’ tours or inclusive packages with accommodation, catering and all transfers so that all you need to worry about is enjoying your time on the trails.
